Spooktember Margarita

The Idea:

September cannot decide if it's summer or fall, so this margarita does both!

It's still a real margarita- bright, tart, cold, refreshing, the kind of thing you'd drink on a porch in August. But there's Chambord in it, which drops a dark berry red through the whole glass and makes it look a little bit haunted. Summer in the sip, Halloween in the glass.

This drink was on the menu for our pumpkin decorating night and it'll be back for every fall thing I host between now and November!

What You Need:

Ingredients (makes one):

  • 2 oz blanco tequila

  • ¾ oz Chambord

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • ½ oz triple sec

How to Assemble:

  1. Add everything to a shaker with ice.

  2. Shake until the outside of the shaker is frosted and your hand is uncomfortable. That's the actual signal, and it's also how the drink gets cold enough and diluted enough to taste right.

  3. Strain over fresh ice in your glass. Fresh, not the ice you shook with — that ice is already half melted and it'll water the whole thing down.

Use real limes. It's the one ingredient where the shortcut is obvious in the glass, and one lime gets you about an ounce.
