Hear Me Out Party
The Idea —
Okay yes, I know. The “Hear Me Out” trend has been floating around the internet for a while now. But here’s the thing, a trend that makes your friends defend their most unhinged opinions in a formal presentation setting never expires!! So we did it, and it was one of the funniest nights I’ve hosted in a long time.
The concept is simple: everyone comes ready to share three things. Their most obscure crush on an animated character or inanimate object. Their most chaotic food combination that they will die on a hill defending. And a full “hear me out” presentation on a topic of their choosing, conspiracy theories welcome, creative autonomy strongly encouraged.
How We Prepped —
For decor, I kept it minimal and let the theme do the heavy lifting. I made oversized ears out of cardboard, covered them in aluminum foil earrings, and attached them to either side of the TV. That was it. That was the whole decor moment and it was perfect. I pre-cut everyone’s “Hear Me Out” character or inanimate object, put them on skewers so when they arrived they were ready to be placed on the store bought cake. (I explain this further below)
I also grabbed fake elf ears and big funny ear headbands that got passed around all night. Everyone loved them. You can’t take someone seriously when they look like a faerie from ACOTAR. And when guests arrived, the first thing they did was make a tin foil hat. You wore it during your presentation, and if you agreed with someone else’s take, you put it back on to show your support. It sounds ridiculous. It was ridiculous. That’s the point.
The Food —
This is where it gets fun. I added the big fake ears to the sides of my store bought cake. I prepped cheeseburger tacos as our main dish. Something a little weird, but still yummy. I placed the cooked ground beef in a crockpot to stay warm all night long, then had fix-ins like cheese, lettuce, tomato and condiments on the side. Then I left space on the table for everyone’s controversial food combinations:
Black coffee and potato chips
Peanut butter and salami sandwiches
Merlot and ice cream
Milk, rice, and cinnamon
Tater tots and mayo
I can’t say we were all convinced of any specific dish... LOL
Party Timeline —
Round 1: The Food Combo
Each person defends their most unhinged food combination. Bonus points if someone tries it on the spot. Eat and chat while everyone arrives.
Round 2: The Crush
Everyone takes turns revealing their most animated character or inanimate object crush and placing their skewer on the cake. Here’s how ours went!
Round 3: The Presentation
This is the main event. Everyone presents their “Hear Me Out” topic, think conspiracy theories, wildly specific opinions, deeply personal convictions. I handed out popcorn before this round specifically so people could throw it at presentations they didn’t agree with. It added a level of chaos that I will absolutely be bringing back!
